Born in the small town of Gaffney, SC, I grew up as the youngest of three siblings and the only girl. Among my fondest memories are that of my Mother and I shopping at the local 5 and Dime on Saturdays. We always seemed to spend a lot of time in the "office supplies" area... not for any particular reason other than we loved paper! My Mom has now passed away. Makes the memories even more vivid today!
I can recall, even as a young child, wanting Santa to bring a "good camera". But somehow that seemed to get put aside with all of the "toys" added to my list. Christmas was a special time for my family. We were always close knit but Christmas had a way of bringing out the best in all of us. I don't recall if this particular holiday was the reason for my brother getting a camera, but I do remember being envious! He got the very best of the "instamatics" on the market! That was most likely the very day that somewhere in my mind I knew that one day I wanted to be a photographer.
I will never forget the registration process for "Vocational" school. At the end of the ninth grade, we toured the vocational center to be encouraged to start a profession early in life. There I witnessed first hand the "graphic arts" course that was offered. Not only was there endless mounds of paper... but cameras! I could learn to compose a photo, develop my own film and print my photos! All the joys of my life and getting educational credit!
Before graduating from high school I was employed with a local print shop as an offset press operator. That "paper thing" just wouldn't pass. It was in my blood. Not much time passed when my attention turned to graphics. I spent every spare minute I could find over the shoulder of the designer composing type on an "IBM Composer." Yes, many years have passed.
Landscape photography offers a personal reward that I love sharing with others. Those who enjoy life on or near the water appreciate the captured moments. I am always open to new projects. Do you have a beautiful waterfront place? No shoot is too big or too small. Call today!
